A couple thousand people attended the Yancy Spencer III Memorial Paddle Out on Pensacola Beach in Pensacola Fla., Sunday, February 20, 2011. Spencer, 60, of Gulf Breeze, Fla was the owner of Innerlight Surf and Skate. He died while surfing in California and is considered the father of Gulf Coast surfing. A few hundred surfers brought their boards for a paddle-out, in which they formed a circle in the Gulf to share stories about the late surfing legend. Spencer, a legendary Gulf Coast surfer, died of an apparent heart attack in California on Monday while sitting on the beach after catching waves at County Line, his favorite spot on Malibu Beach.
